Hayel Raji Nesheiwat, 78 of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on January 2, 1940 in Imman, Jordan to the late Raji and Nagla Nesheiwat. He married Tagreed Al Haddad on January 7, 2005 in Imman, Jordan and she survives at home.
A local resident since 1956, Hayel earned his Masters Degree from the University of Syracuse and also has a Degree from the University of Illinois. He was previously employed as an Engineer with IBM of Poughkeepsie, NY and was also a Professor at Vassar College and Dutchess Community Colleges. Hayel was an Author of a book on the Arabic language. He was a member of St. James Antiochian Orthodox Church and enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling and loved to socialize with family and friends.
In addition to his wife Tagreed, Hayel is survived by his sons Michael (Suzy Shwayhat) Nesheiwat and Roger (Carol-Anne) Nesheiwat both of Portland, Or., daughters Hilda (Steve) Heimlein of Pleasant Valley, NY and Maria (Robert) Demelo of Hopewell Junction, NY, grandchildren Isabella, Maria, Alexandria, Nicholas, Andrew, Sophia, Amelia, Angelina and Anthony, brothers Ghazi and Tony Nesheiwat and sisters Haifa, Elaine and Evonne Nesheiwat. Hayel was predeceased his two brothers Sayel and Wayel Nesheiwat.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at St. James Antiochian Church, 441 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:30am at St. James Antiochian Church 441 Violet Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY.
