Obituary of Joseph A. Madonia

Joseph A. "Speedy" Madonia, FSO, age 83 of Wappingers Falls, NY passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born in Poughkeepsie on September 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Anthony "Nino" and Teresa Emmanuele Madonia. He had lived on N. Clover Street for most of his life. Joe graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School, Poughkeepsie High School and attended Dutchess Community College. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Joe worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 40 years as a Sr. Electro-Mechanical Designer, retiring on August 1, 1992. On March 25, 1975 he married Barbara "Bobbie" L. Luks at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie by Fr. Alfred Pizzuto and she survives him at home. His passions were building model airplanes from WWII, which he painted and airbrushed - no decals for him. He was also an accomplished artist using all medias and subjects. He was also a computer go to guy. Joe was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. In his youth he and his childhood friends were on CYO and as adults were members of the Holy Name Society and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Drum & Bugle Corp. where he played the bugle. He is currently a member of St. Mary's Mother of the Church in Fishkill, NY. Joe is a member of the Most Holy Stigma Fraternity at Mt. Alvernia in Wappingers Falls, the Franciscan Secular Order, and was a Catechist and Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Mary's Poughkeepsie and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. In addition to his wife, Bobbie, he is survived by his sister Mary VanVlack and her husband Raymond VanVlack, Sr., his nephew Raymond VanVlack, Jr. and his wife Carol, his niece Wendy Van Vlack and her spouse Rhonda, along with his great nephews Jason and Zachary VanVlack and his great-great niece Aaliyah VanVlack. Additionally Joe is survived by his sister-in-law Jill C. Luks of Maine, nephew Matthew Luks Jurutka of North Carolina, niece Johanna Luks Jurutka of Illinois and their father Paul Jurutka of Maine. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church. 231 Church St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 with Fr.
