Obituary of Michael T Lewis

‘Night Gathers, and now his watch begins’ as Michael (Mike) Thomas Lewis passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie on Monday August 21, 2017 at the age of 64.
Michael has joined his parents, Clyde and Geraldine Lewis to continue their watch over their beloved family and friends.  He was a loving brother to his sister Donna Argentina and husband Donald; brother John Lewis and wife Susan; and sister Pat Tiernan and husband Philip.  Also, many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their uncle.
On April 25, 1982, Michael married Ellen Bladel who survives along with their three children, daughter Meghan Mastroeni and husband Paul; son Ryan Lewis and wife Ashley; son Brendan Lewis; and his beloved beagle Lacey.
Mike also had a work family of 27 years at InterCounty Supply in Bedford Hills, NY.  He was loved by all of his co-workers and loyal customers who could always rely on Mike for not only quality service but a good joke and putting a smile on their face.
Michael was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 21, 1952 and lived in the area his entire life.  He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School and went on to play football at Marist College.  Mike was an avid golfer and football player but found just as much joy teaching the game of baseball and basketball.  He was an engaged member of his community and volunteered nearly two decades of his life to coaching for the Town of Poughkeepsie youth baseball and softball as well as the Town of Pleasant Valley basketball and soccer leagues. Mike always said, “The best times of my life were when I was coaching you kids.”  What made Mike such a great coach was how he saw potential in every child; he had a way of capitalizing on the players strengths and was able to make the game fun for everyone.
Mike was a devoted fan to both the New York Yankees and Giants.  He loved going to games with his children and hosting Super Bowl parties every year to which he never missed a single game. Each year Mike featured his famous chili and a new dish to which he loved to show off his culinary wizardry.
Mike’s passion for history, geography, music, and cinematography often led to hour long conversations in which Mike would astonish you with details and lessons learned.  He was a storyteller and had a way of capturing the best parts of every moment and telling it with suspense.  Mike was a person who was filled with much love, kindness, and generosity.  These legacies will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
