Obituary of Luana Cummings
Sunrise: October 20, 1968 Sunset: September 9, 2017.
Luana Monique Cummings, lovingly known as “Nikki,” departed this earth on September 9, 2017, 6:08 pm, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after an extended illness.
Nikki was the daughter of the late Lloyd W. Cummings Sr. of Red Hook, New York, and Janice (Williams) Cummings of Poughkeepsie, New York.
She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and attended Dutchess Community College. Nikki was a long time employee of Gannett News, Poughkeepsie Journal located in White Plains NY, where she was one of the first female Pressmen.
In addition to her mother, Janice M. Cummings, Nikki is survived by her beloved 14year-old daughter, Jai Dah Marie Cummings; her sisters, Carla M. Cummings (Tina) of Atlanta, GA, Karen R. Cummings of Poughkeepsie, NY, Yvette M. Rice of Philadelphia, PA, Sondrea D. Cuvilje (Kim) of Lumberton, NC, a brother, Mark A. Beatty, of Albany, New York, and the father of her daughter John Watkins. She also leaves to mourn an uncle, Roger A. Williams (Theresa) and 14 nieces and nephews who all have children of their own. Nikki was pre-deceased by her brother Lloyd W. Cummings Jr. with whom she shared a very special bond, and her father, Lloyd Cummings Sr.
Along with a host of friends, Nikki is also survived by her two special childhood friends, Shana Robinson and Rita Daniels, and her best friend, Lillian Goldson. An amazing thing that in and of itself demonstrates the depth of her immense love of family and friends, Nikki remembered everyone’s birthday. There is a huge void now in place of our cherished Nikki, but we thank God for lending her to us for a time.
We take comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
