Obituary of Elizabeth Jane Mallet
Elizabeth Jane " Betty" Mallet, 85, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away at her daughters home on Tuesday October 3, 2017. Born on April 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Alma Mackey VanSteenburgh. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
While working at Central Hudson Gas & Electric, she met Stanley G. Mallet. They married on May 14, 1953 in Poughkeepsie. He predeceased her in September of 1995.
She was a communicant at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley, and later at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. Betty was a past Den Mother for Cub Scouts, a Sunday School Teacher, CYO Advisor, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rochdale Fire Department. In 1997, she retired from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie after 22 years of service. She was an avid reader, and loved a good crossword puzzle especially when at the beach. Betty enjoyed camping, traveling, and hot air ballooning with family.
She was most proud of her 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Betty is survived by her children Jerry and his wife Meg, Steve and his wife Gaye, Brian and his wife Colleen, Lorraine Consiglio and her husband Ray, Scott and his wife Ellen, and Michele Hooper and her husband Roger; grandchildren Kelsey, Daryl, Philip, Charly, Kyle, Matt, Jordan, Steve, Erin, Adam, Dalton, Ellie and Jonathan; two sisters Carol Doreo, Peggy LeFevre and brother Richard VanSteenburgh. Many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including close friend April Dawn Shinske, also survive her.
Calling hours will be held on Friday October 6, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday October 7, 2017 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Church or Grace Smith House, PO Box 5205 Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
