Richard Keith (Rich) Errickson, 54, of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away on February 16, 2018 after a short illness.
Rich was born in San Pedro, California, to Spencer and Lois Errickson on August 8, 1963. He graduated high school as salutatorian in Cumberland, Maryland in 1981. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Lehigh University in 1985. He was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society in 1985 and Tau Beta Pi in 1984. He worked as a computer engineer for IBM for 32 years, rising to the position of Senior Technical Staff Member. He received numerous awards, both formal and informal, from IBM and produced 33 patents. He enjoyed being a den leader with the Boy Scouts of America (where he achieved the rank of Life Scout), teaching Sunday School and Confirmation, being an usher at church, traveling with his family, and playing games and cards with friends. He was also involved in the IBM volleyball league for many years.
Rich is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sheri, and their sons, Keith and Neil; his parents, Spencer and Lois Errickson; his brother, Spencer Errickson, and wife Maria; his sister, Robin Staub, and husband Joseph; and nieces Victoria Buchler and Rachel Davis. He was well loved by family and friends alike and was known for never saying an unkind word about anyone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a scholarship fund in Rich Errickson’s name through St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Boulevard, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the church, Boy Scout Troop 25 and friends for all the cards, delicious meals, thoughts, and prayers.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Margay Whitlock officiating. Visiting hours begin at 10:00 a.m. in St. John’s Chapel before the service. Luncheon will be served in the church’s Fellowship Hall after the service.
