Goodbye Ian, you multifaceted, extraordinary, indomitable and talented visionary, you kind, humble and heroic force of nature.
You dazzled us all, but blazed out too soon. Shine on with your natural brilliance and without pain in heaven. Shine on in the thousands of hearts you touched and minds you inspired.
My heartfelt condolences to, and prayers for, everyone you love and everyone who loves you, most especially your family. Rest in peace, my friend.
Today is a sad day. I could never imagine to have to say good bye to Ian, the very first friend that I made in this country. Ian was like the older brother that I never had and I always looked at him as an example.
I had the honor to work with Ian at NYU when I first came in the US and the fortune to get to know him at a deeper and personal level over they years. We become very good friends and, although we lived relatively far way, we continued to see each other on a regular base and established our traditional rock concert hang-out or fun weekends with our families.
My wife and I are deeply shocked, our hearts are heavy. We offer our most sincere condolences to Paula and the kids.
Ian will be very much missed among us until the day we meet again.
Really saddened by the loss of a very, very, very good friend. Really good hearted and great sense of humour. My thoughts go to all his family. I knew Ian since we were young and we were even room mates at university. Last time I saw Ian was in London, where he got to know my wife. I have so many fond memories of Ian. Deeply saddened.

There are no words my Little Bro. You will be Greatly missed! Until we meet again!
Condolences and Much Love to Paula, Ty & Cole and to all of Ian’s family. Words can’t express how sorry I am for your loss. Ian will always be the most amazing Human that stepped into my life and took his place as my little bro.
Much Love to the Portelli Family.
It was a pleasure to work with Ian on The Trauma Teaching day at Vassar. His enthusiasm towards his work made the conference shine. My sincere apologies to his family during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed.
Dear Ian, It was a great pleasure to have worked with you and your wonderful team. Health Quest has truly lost a shining star. You were always so responsive, always so available even when you were doing doubles at Vassar AND always with a smile! During my struggle with my dad's illness and then his passing, you remained in contact with me and offered kind words. That is who you are and that is how I shall always remember you. Rest in peace my dear colleague and friend. Shine your brightness on your family and friends who are missing you today and always. My deepest condolences to your wife and children. Bye Ian. Rest in Peace.
Ian was probably, by far, one of the kindest human beings I've had the honor and privilege to know. And he had an incredible sense of humor. He has made a significant difference in the lives of many and has caused a ripple in the world of emergency management that will continue on into the future. His loss is immeasurable but so is the love he left behind.
My thoughts, prayers, and sincerest sympathy to his wife Paula, his children, and to all his family and friends.
Heaven needed an hero. Rest in peace, Ian.

Ian, you were first and foremost a best friend- from NYC commutes, neighborhood days and raising new families together. My family and I will truly miss you.
Ian was such an amazing individual. He brightened everyone’s day. He brought so much compassion and drive for excellence in all that he did and I truly enjoyed working with him. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with his wife and two young children.
Paula and family,
Heaven got a true hero and scholar. It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Ian at Vassar. My prayers are with you, the boys, and Ian’s family in this very difficult time. May he Rest In Peace and watch over you.
