Obituary of Byron G. Slater

Byron G. Slater of Salt Point, NY passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.  Born in Newburgh, NY on November 24, 1929, he was the son of the late Al and Anna Hulse Conero.  Byron attended school in Highland Falls, NY and Rutgers University.  He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1953 and continued in the Reserves from 1954-1958.  Byron worked for Central Hudson in Newburgh and Poughkeepsie as a District Manager and in Customer Relations, retiring on December 1, 1989.  On October 12, 1985 he married Catherine A. DeAngelis in Pleasant Valley and she survives him at home.  Byron had served on the Spackenkill Board of Education from 1972-1982.  He was one of the first Founders of the Town of Poughkeepsie Pop Warner Football League, where he served as President and he also coached for the Eagles.  Byron was also a member of the American Legion #739 in Pleasant Valley and was treasurer of the Town of Poughkeepsie Lions Club from 1972-1982.  In addition to his wife Catherine, Byron is survived by his children; Byron J. Slater (Patricia) of Los Angeles, CA, Jefferson D. Slater (Joy) of Cape Cod, MA, step children Mary Catrone of Salt Point, George Catrone of Poughkeepsie, great grandson Daniel as well as his sisters Violet Rosner (Sid) of New Jersey, Edith Conero of San Francisco, CA and his brother Alfred Frank Conero (Joann) of Rhinebeck, NY.  Also surviving are his grandchildren Shannon, Alex, Mary and Cathy and several nieces and nephews.  Byron was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret McKnight in July, 1982 and his sister Patricia Conero.  There are no calling hours.  A Graveside Service will be held 1pm on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at St. Peter's Cemetery.  The Family requests memorial donation be made to either the ASPCA for Pop Warner Football.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy P.
