Obituary of Donald W. Hayes

On Wednesday, September 12, Donald passed away peacefully at his home in Poughkeepsie.

Don was born on August 15, 1930 and was the son of the late Harold Hayes and Jenny K. (Ousterhought) Hayes.

He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1948.  Don later served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea during the Korean War.  Don returned home to Poughkeepsie, married Dorothy C. Davis on September 26, 1951 and started a 30 year career with IBM.

Don was a huge fan of the NY Giants and Mets.  He spent his time pursuing his passion for painting, playing golf, camping, fishing, bird watching, logic puzzles and reading to and watching cartoons with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his sons William Hayes, Edward Hayes and his wife Debbie, Timothy Hayes and his wife Karen, his daughter Jean (Hayes) Maton and her husband David, his grandchildren Matthew Maton his S.O. Amanda Moore, Timothy Hayes, Liam Hayes, Brianna Hayes and Tyler Hayes, his twin great grandchildren Finn and Dylan Maton as well as his sister Doreen (Hayes) Goodwin and her husband Norman.
Don was preceded by his wife of 41 years Dorothy, his 9 year old great grandson Aidan Donald Lee Maton, his new born great grandson Ryan Hayes Maton and his brother Richard Hayes.

The family owes a special thank you and much love to Karen J. Hayes, Tim’s wife for the exceptional love and care she gave to him in his final days.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday September 17, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 10am September 18, 2018 at Holy Trinity Church 775 Main Street Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Peter's Cemetery.
