Amerigo Pecchia

Obituary of Amerigo Pecchia

Amerigo Pecchia, 92, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021 Son of Gino and Yolanda, Husband to Emilia, Father of Gino (Kay), Maria, Victor (Donna), and Lisa (Brian), and a beloved Nonno. From May 28, 1928 to February 22, 2021, Amerigo spent a lifetime creating an amazing family, a legion of friendships, and a community of admirers. After graduating from Poughkeepsie High School, he embarked with Gino Pecchia and Sons, building beautiful homes for so many years in our community. In 1950, he met his bride Emilia in Lucca, Italy. Two years of love letters and travel finally concluded with the the two becoming one on August 3, 1952. Years became decades, and the Pecchia family continued to grow. Anyone who came into contact with Amerigo discovered a few things very quickly: you’ll feel like his best friend, there will be food involved, and you were going to hear about his family. After his children left the house, a new endeavor was brought into Amerigo’s path: being a Nonno. He cherished his fifteen grandchildren: Kristi (Keith), David (Julianna), Ryan, Brent, Craig, Stefan, Brian (Jessica), Anthony, Tahnya (Adam), Kyle, and Brandon and eleven Great grandchildren: Jake, Noah, Lily, Paisley, Harper, Gianni, Giachenta, Emilia, Lucca, Cosmo, and Blake. He was a proud member of the Italian Center in the City of Poughkeepsie and created lifelong friends and memories. Amerigo went from building homes and a family, to managing his garden, building in his wood shop, and even working on his roof after his 90th birthday! He never forgot his Italian family and traveled back to Italy often. We will miss him, but his legacy has left an imprint that we will look back on and admire for generations to come. We will proudly continue to spread his love. He is now reunited with Emilia, his parents and son Gino, sister Delia, brother Paul, his brothers-in-law Sammy and Charlie, as well as sister-in-law Gloria. Lisa and husband Umberto, as well as sister Gloria will continue to join us in telling stories over family dinners and toasting to the funny, loving, and amazing tales of an admirable man we were lucky enough to have in our lives. We will make sure those garden rows are straight, the sauce has enough salt, and to always have one more chair for anyone who needs a meal and love. We love and miss you so much already. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12pm Friday February 26, 2021 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. The family asks that donations be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital 501 St Judes Place Memphis Tennessee 38105.
