I am only now seeing this obituary and it makes me sad. Jim was a very sweet man who always had a friendly smile and kind words when I would be out walking. I know he is greatly missed by many. My condolences to his family.

Dear Barbara, David, Brian & Family,
I was very sad to learn of Jim’s passing. My condolences to all of you. I will always remember Jim as a good teacher, colleague and friend. We started teaching at the same time, in the same department and retired at the same time. We talked frequently and shared many stories. I will always keep the memories of “Jimbo” (as we in the History department affectionately knew him) getting on a roll about a particular topic and end up giggling. He would have all of us laughing. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Mr. Barysh was one of those teachers who truly made a difference. I think back on his economics class my senior year and his enthusiasm helped set me on my career path. My deepest sympathies to his family. Take comfort in the fact that he had such a positive impact on so many other lives.

I was in Mr. Barysh's Psychology class, but he knew who I was long before that from having me in the lunch he monitored my freshman year. I don't think he ever failed to call me by name as we passed in the hall. His wit and thought provoking quips were legendary. I was lucky enough to work with him for a few years as I returned to the HS to work prior to his retirement. Jim made me feel welcome and always made time to chat or share encouragement on difficult days. I'll always appreciate the warmth he brought to school every day. He made a positive impact on generations of Spackenkill students and he lives on in their memories and actions.
