Obituary of Margaret E Mancuso

Margaret E. Mancuso, 92, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie passed
peacefully into eternal rest on May 17, 2021. Margaret was born on
August 13, 1928 to Benjamin T. Mancuso, Sr. and Margaret Davis
Mancuso. She was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony J. Mancuso,
Benjamin T. Mancuso, Jr., and John J. Mancuso. Margaret is survived by
her four nieces who loved and cared for her throughout her life,
Antonia D. Smith, Donna M. Venditti, Theresa M. Witkowicz, and
Stephanie J. Pectal. Margaret attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from
Poughkeepsie High School. She worked for 34 years at the New York
Telephone Company in Poughkeepsie. After retirement, Margaret
volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers of America. Margaret was a
fervent Roman Catholic and attended Holy Trinity Church. She was a
lifetime supporter of the Maryknoll Sisters, Maryknoll, NY and the
Franciscan Friars of the Atonement Graymoor, Garrison, NY and many
other Catholic charities. Her nieces wish to thank the Reverend Peter J.
Vianney and the Reverend Ajith Wellington who often visited Margaret
which gave her much comfort and peace in her later years.
Margaret always told her nieces how much she enjoyed her life. She
was easy to laugh and loved to tell jokes. Margaret had many close
friends and she cherished them all. She never missed an opportunity to
brighten their day with a special card, a handwritten cursive note or to
call with good wishes for them. She was an avid reader from her school
days and especially enjoyed mystery novels. She always looked forward
to the baseball season and especially enjoyed watching her favorite
team, the Boston Red Sox. When she was younger, Margaret loved to
travel in the US and made a trip to Ireland. Margaret was an excellent
seamstress, knitter and crocheter. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed being
outside with nature, and was proud that she had done her own
yardwork and gardening. Her nieces wish to thank all of the doctors and nurses from MidHudson
Regional Hospital and Hudson Valley Hospice of Poughkeepsie for the
special care and compassion they all provided. With much gratitude,
they also wish to thank, Dr. Angelo Della Pietra, her primary care
physician, who tended to her with exceptional caring and concern for
many years. Special thanks are also sent to her dear neighbors and
friends, Kathy and John, Marianne and Steve, and Rowena who helped
Margaret day-to-day so she was able to remain in her own home which
meant so much to her. Margaret’s message to all of us is to have a strong Faith in God; say
your prayers each day, the power of prayer is amazing; cherish your
family and friends with all of your heart; love one another to make our
world a better place; count your many blessings from God and
appreciate the kindnesses done for you, knowing that it is the little
things that mean the most; find something to laugh about each day,
and always, always remember to smile, as a way of making yours and
someone else’s day just a little brighter. In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Interment will be private at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
