Obituary of James Hansen

James Hansen, 94, passed away peacefully at home with his sons at his side on Wednesday July 21st, 2021.

He was born in Brooklyn in 1927 to Solveig and ChristChristiansen (Hansen) who were immigrants from Norway, he held dual citizenship in the United States and Norway.

At a young age he helped his family with chores around the apartment to support them in Brooklyn.  Later they moved to Poestenkill NY where his father worked as a carpenter.  When he was fifteen years old his father passed away and he had to support his mother and two younger brothers, Norman and Roy.  In 1941 he moved with his family to Modena and then entered WWII in the United States Navy at the age of 17.  At the end of the WWII he returned home and graduated from Wallkill High School.  After graduating he became one of the youngest managers hired by IBM, where he worked for 42 years until his retirement in June 1991. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Smith in 1950 and together they had two sons, James and Eric. Margaret predeceased James in 2006. 

James is survived by his son Eric and wife Rose, and Denise Hansen mother of his Grandson, Reid and his fiancée Tyler and daughter Talia; James and wife Colleen, and his grandchildren Cailin and husband Chris Pettus and Great Grandson Cody Maddox Pettus, and Amy Misove and partner Jerry Terwilliger, Adam Misove and wife Tammy, Great Grandson Gavin Misove, and was predeceased by Granddaughter Meg Ellen Misove.

On October 31, 2008 he then married Edith (Dee) Pellegrini at Linwood in Rhinebeck and she predeceased him in July 2018.Also surviving are Dee’s children, Eve Capello, Lisa Fine, and Larry Cantamessa and grandchildren Alex, Katie, Christine, Olivia and Hailey.

A special thank you to MidHudson Regional Hospital and Hospice nurses and staff for all their care and kindness. The family also would like to send a special thank you to Zita, caregiver for our father during his final days.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.  The Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 10:00am at the Reformed Church in Shawangunk, NY and burial will be held in the BruynswickRural Cemetery in Wallkill NY.
