Obituary of Ellen Patricia Hayes

Ellen Patricia Hayes, 85 of Wappinger Falls, NY passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021, at the Grand in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Ellen was born on February 22, 1936, in Middletown, NY to the late John William and Myrtle C. Grey Burke. She married Richard Joseph Hayes in 1956 at St. Peter's Church. He predeceased her on December 7, 1994.

A local resident most of her life, Ellen was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and attended Cobleskill College for Teaching. Prior to her retirement, Ellen was employed as a Stenographer at Hudson River Psychiatric Center. She was a member of CSEA, a Notary Public and a member of the Hyde Park Methodist Church and sang in their choir. Ellen was kind and caring to all. She would not hesitate to give a helping hand to those less fortunate. Ellen volunteered for numerous events such as afterhours entertainment for HRPC patients. At the Halsey Senior Apt complex, Ellen set up a store and prepared lunches for the residents. She tutored college students in literature and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

Ellen loved to cook, sing, go on long drives, attended matinee musicals regularly, taught herself to play the piano, completed puzzles, enjoyed drawing, painting, crocheting, reading, board games and being around family and friends. She had many pet cats over the years, and it gave her much joy.

Ellen is survived by her daughters Kellianne (William) DeBold of East Fishkill, NY, Judith Annette (Dennis) Hafer of Poughkeepsie, NY, grandchildren Michael DeBold, Dennis (MaryAnn) Hafer, Jr., Allyssa (Aaron) Pagliaro, Lindsay Hafer, Steven (Jessica) Hafer, great grandchildren Lorenzo, Emma, Tucker Hayes, Henry, Steven, Jr. Zachary and Andrew.
