Obituary of John Hallas

John Hallas, 75 of Poughkeepsie, NY died on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. John was born on February 10, 1946 in Batsi, Greece to the late Dimitrios and Elefteria Ourfanou Hallas. He married the former Maria Siolas on October 10, 1971 at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie, NY and survives at home.

John previously lived in Andros, Greece and served in the Greek Navy. A local resident since 1969, John was a cook who worked at the Palace and Acropolis Diners in Poughkeepsie, NY. He previously owned the Amsterdam and Red Coach Diners as well as Texas Lunch also in Poughkeepsie. John was a member of AHEPA, and the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. He loved to garden and fish.

In addition to his wife Maria, John is survived by his daughters, Tina Dragowski and Dimitra Hallas both of Poughkeepsie, NY, son Demitrios Hallas of Poughkeepsie, NY, grandchildren Christopher, Alexis and Nicholas Dragowski and Zoie Gauthier, and sister Ourania Hallas of Switzerland. John is predeceased by Maria and Antonios Hallas.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral Services are on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00am at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
