Obituary of Thomas G. Serino

Thomas G. Serino, 90 years, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center.

A local resident all of his life, Thomas was born on Thursday July 30, 1931 in Poughkeepsie, the son of Germano and Louise (née Stisi) Germano.

Thomas was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War.

On July 1, 1951 at the Nativity Church in Poughkeepsie, Thomas married Doris M. Messina. Thomas was a mason for Local 44 Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union retiring in 1993.

 

He was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church where he coached CYO basketball, a life member of Arlington Fire Department Station 3,  a Little League baseball coach, and Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 125. Thomas loved gardening and took pride in his tomatoes. He enjoyed his family and loved being around his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thomas also loved sitting on his porch waving to all the kids on the bus traveling to the nearby elementary school.

 

Survivors include his wife Doris, his children G. Thomas Serino and his wife Donna of Telford, PA, Joseph Serino and his wife Lorinda of Germantown, NY, Robert A. Serino and his wife Elda of Poughkeepsie, Annmarie Ferguson and her husband Glenn of Pleasant Valley, Michael A. Serino of Poughkeepsie, his daughter in-law Patricia Horton of Highland, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, his sister in-law Catherine MacDermott of Hyde Park, and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas is predeceased by his siblings Jerry Serino, Dolores Gallo, Emily Serino, and brother in-law Raymond MacDermott, and granddaughter Ginelle Serino.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Jan 8. from 10:00 AM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie
Thomas' entombment will take place at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Road, Poughkeepsie.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner Children’s Hospital in Springfield, Ma.
