Obituary of Barbara H. Carpenter

Barbara H. Carpenter, 82, of Poughkeepsie, died on January 1, 2022, at the Grand in Pawling. Barbara was born in Hazleton, PA. on August 26, 1939, daughter of the late Frank and the late Stella Organist Piontek. She was a 50-year local resident, previously of Philadelphia, PA and a graduate of Chestnut Hill College and SUNY New Paltz. In 1963 in Philadelphia Barbara married Adelbert “Roy” Carpenter, who predeceased her in April of 2007. Barbara was an assistant  dean and director of the Learning Center at Marist College; she retired from Marist in 2008. A member of St. Martin de Porres Church, she was an administrator of the College of Lifetime Studies at Marist College and a volunteer at Vassar Hospital. Barbara is survived by her three sons Roy Carpenter and his wife Shona of Lyon France; David Carpenter of Philadelphia, PA; Timothy Carpenter and his wife Jenny of New Market, NH; and her five grandchildren, Paul, Philip, Samuel, Stella, and Hudson. She was predeceased by her brother Jack Piontek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Thursday January 6, 2022 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Road. Entombment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
