Obituary of Arlene L. Thielman

Arlene L. Thielman, 100, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 just 20 days shy of her 101st birthday. She was born on March 19, 1921 to the late Nellie (Barton) and Herman Rall in Chicago, Illinois.

 

Arlene was a Poughkeepsie resident since 2015. Prior to that she was a long-time resident of Red Hook, NY. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Red Hook, NY.

Arlene was extremely proud to have served in the U.S. Army during World War II. She was also proud to have been one of the original "Rosie the Riveters", assembling B-24 Bombers at the famed bomber plant in Willow Run, Michigan. Arlene later moved to New York where she met

the love of her life, Peter F. Thielman. They were married on December 20, 1945 in Bronx, NY.

 

In her later years, Arlene volunteered in the Business Office at Northern Dutchess Hospital for many years. She enjoyed relating stories from her colorful past which everyone enjoyed hearing.

 

Survivors include her daughters Joyce Lacey of El Cajon, CA and Linda Dworak and husband Jim of Poughkeepsie, NY; granddaughters Lori Albers of Olathe, Kansas and Larissa Rheden-Otero and husband Jose of Stanfordville, NY and great-granddaughter Megan Brown of Stanfordville, NY. In addition to her husband Peter, Arlene was predeceased by her daughter, Gail A. Wallace, son-in-law Ray Lacey and by her 4 brothers, Lyle, Norm, Bob and Vern.

 

The family wishes to thank the staff at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation & Extended care Center, especially Hope, Ashley, Jenn and Nancy for the care and attention they gave Arlene in her 2  years there.

 

In keeping with Arlene's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook, NY. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or woundedwarriorproject.org
