Obituary of John Moran

John E. Moran, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at River Valley Care Center on December 19, 2012. John was born on February 24, 1932 in Poughkeepsie, the son of John Fitzgerald and Bertha Moran who predeceased him. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. He commissioned the first canted deck aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Antietam CVA-36. John operated a refrigeration and air conditioning business for many years and later became a member of Local 201 Plumbers & Steamfitters retiring in 1993. He was a charter and certified member of the Mid-Hudson Refrigeration Service Engineers Society, serving as past secretary. He was a member of American Legion Post 1302 and was a former member of the Shamrock Club. John loved to reminisce about his time in the Navy and was extremely proud to be a United States veteran. He was also proud of his Irish heritage and loved to tell jokes. Most importantly, John loved his family and always looked forward to the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife, Barbara C. Moran, the mother of their three daughters and his youngest daughter, Melanie Eades who passed away in February. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan "Jody" Moran who devotedly cared for him during his illness, daughters Lauri Allen of Poughkeepsie, Valerie Sommerville of Pleasant Valley, son-in-law Michael Eades of Poughkeepsie; granddaughters Tara Pantalone of Poughkeepsie and Carina Schroeder of Los Angeles; granddaughter Nicole Eades of Millbrook; grandson James Eades of Millbrook, and great-grandsons Benjamin Schneider of Poughkeepsie and Dylan and Neville Schroeder of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by brothers Ronald Moran, Columbia, Connecticut and Daryl Moran, Fort Myers, Florida. Calling hours will be held on Friday December 21, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 22, 2012 in the Funeral Home at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post #1302.
