Obituary of Albert Togna

Albert Dominic Togna, age 89, of Princeton, NJ, died early Monday morning, March 18, 2013 at the University Medical Center in Princeton, NJ. Albert was born on May 8, 1923 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the late Louis and the late Olga (Innocenti) Togna. He married Margaret Hrubochak on July 13, 1947 at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. They were dedicated to each other and would have been married 66 years this July. Albert attended the University of Michigan, where he received a BS in chemistry. He was proud of the fact that he graduated in 3.5 years. After college and during World War II, he joined the Coast Guard. Later, he was employed by Texaco in Beacon, NY for over 30 years by the time he retired in 1982. He treasured his children and grandchildren and helped them in whatever they needed, particularly when they required tutoring in math and science. But his true love, which was inspired by his father, was music. He was pleased to recount that he played clarinet in the University of Michigan Band led by William D. Ravelli. He played with Russ Gilmore's orchestra at many weddings and other events, and for many years, he played clarinet in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. His home was always filled with music. Rehearsals were a common occurrence in the household; he taught clarinet lessons even after he found it difficult to play himself. After he retired, he gave back in many ways to the community. He volunteered at the ARC where he kept their financial records, he delivered Meals on Wheels to those that needed help, and he, along with his wife, volunteered at the Nearly New Shop. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Hrubochak) Togna; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Sheridan of Wakefield, RI; son Lawrence Togna of Warminster PA; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Rick Woodward of Harleysville, PA; and son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Monica Togna of Allentown, NJ. Albert is also survived by eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and was predeceased by his brother Ricardo Togna of Chester, VA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church - St. Peters Parish, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY with Father James A. Garisto officiating. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Calling hours will be Friday, March 22 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at the Timothy P.
