Obituary of Judith DePaola

Judith P. DePaola, 73, died Sunday, August 18, 2013 in her home surrounded by her devoted daughters and the rest of her family. A lifelong resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, she was born on February 18, 1940 in Poughkeepsie to Col. James H. and Dorothy (Riedeinger) Ackerman. A graduate of Wappingers Central School in 1957. She dedicated 35 years of service to Dutchess County, serving as Director of Civil Defense and Disaster Preparedness. At the time of her retirement her title was Deputy Coordinator of Dutchess County Emergency Response Team. She was a member of the Dutchess County Credit Union Forum, Secretary and Treasurer of the Dutchess County Auxiliary Police Association and Chairman of the Dutchess County Blood Program. She was predeceased in death by her parents: Retired Col. James H. and Dorothy (Riedinger) Ackerman. She is survived by her 3 children, Michele Ottaviano and husband Dave of Austin, TX, Kathy Cafaro and her husband Gerry of Poughkeepsie, NY and Michael DePaola of Highland, NY., 4 grandchildren, Nicholas Ottaviano, Noelle Cafaro, Joseph Cafaro, Nicole Ottaviano, and sister, Bonnie Moran of Hyde Park, NY., and companion Anthony DePaola She loved to dance which enabled her to win first place in November 1956 on American Bandstand. She also loved her animals. A special thanks to Hospice, especially to her nurses, Jen and Tom. Also the staff of the fourth floor at Vassar Hospital, especially her PCT Mike. Calling hours will take place Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 4-8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc. Services will be held August 22, 2013 at 7pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc.
