Obituary of Harold Rugar

Harold W. Rugar, age 79, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center Poughkeepsie, NY. Harold was born October 28, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the late Edward and the late Gladys (Lee) Rugar. He married Dorothy Near in 1953 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Dorothy predeceased harold on September 27, 2003. On December 24, 2004 Harold married Christine Handy, she survives at home. He served in the United States Army during the Korean war from July 9, 1953 to June 1, 1955. In 1990 he retired from Roe Movers as a Truck Driver. Harold was a member of Arlington Reformed Church he liked to camp and enjoyed going to Florida in the winter. Harold was a very outgoing and friendly person and good hearted. He is survived by his wife: Christine Rugar of Poughkeepsie; two daughters: Judy Byrd of Kingston, NY, Gail Rugar of Poughkeepsie, NY; one sister: Christine M. Rugar of Poughkeepsie, NY and seven brothers: John, Ferris, Richard, George, Raymond, Thomas and David Rugar. Harold is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. On March 19, 2013 Harold was predeceased by his Son, Harold W. Rugar Jr. Calling hours will be Friday, August 23 from 6pm to 8pm and Saturday, August 24 from 9am to 10am at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
