Obituary of Gertrude Spinelli

Trudy A. Spinelli (nee Barrett), recently of Poughkeepsie NY, formerly of Long Island NY, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2013. She was born in Ridgewood, NY to James Barrett and Helen Grace. Trudy attended Lynbrook High School. She worked at various jobs throughout her life, but most recently worked at Jil Crest Colour Labs in Massapequa. Jil Crest was more like a family to her than a job. She retired in 2004 and moved upstate to Poughkeepsie. She became an active volunteer at the LaGrange Library where she made many friends. When her girls were younger, she was active in the West Babylon Little League and West Babylon Football League, and the Police Wives. She was survived by her daughter, Marylou G. Hyland (law Rick Hyland); and daughter Christine A. Cavagnet (Joe Cavagnet); grandchildren Ricky Hyland, Michele Hyland, Zac Cavagnet and Dominique Cavagnet; her sister Pat Coenen (Lt. Col. Bill Coenen, ret); and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 6pm-9pm, Thursday September 5, 2013 at Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home 255 Higbie Lane in West Islip, NY. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday September 6, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Hunter Ave. in West Islip. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to either The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Friends of LaGrange Library. The family will be hosting a luncheon, at Lily Flanagan's on Deer Park Ave. Babylon, approximately at 12pm after the Funeral Service. Please send a message, for a head count would be helpful.
