Obituary of William Rogers

William E. Rogers, 83, of Poughkeepsie, NY died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. William was born on May 29, 1930 in New Bedford, MA and was the son of the late Manuel and Elizabeth Rogers. A local resident for over 20 years, he had worked as head custodian for Poughkeepsie High School and he also taught computer and photography at Castle Point VA. William served in the US Army and retired after 35 years as Sgt. Major. He was a member of the American Legion #1307, the V.F.W. 170 of Poughkeepsie and also a member of John 3:16 Christian Center. He enjoyed photography and computers; he was an avid Yankee fan and loved all sports in general. Bill was a man who loved the Savior and God. He loved and prayed for family everyday. He was always one to reach out and be generous to the less fortunate and had love for his fellow man. Bill was one to always make others smile with his humor and turn a bad day into a good one. He loved and served his country and fought for our freedom in the US Military. Bill is survived by his children; William C. and Ronnie Rogers of East Haven, CT, Cheryl A. and Larry Gallmeier of S. Windsor, CT, Mary E. and Dennis Bloking of Manchester, CT, David M. and Susan Rogers of Putnam, CT, Stephen S. Rogers of FL, Elizabeth J. and Gregory Dumond of S. Windsor, CT and Richard L. Rogers of FL. In addition he is survived by his stepchildren William and Lisa Banning of Meriden, CT, Rene Fender and Karen Christie of Michigan. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his son Michael Rogers in 1963 and his loving pet Freeway.
