Obituary of Francis Nevins

Born on January 6, 1931 to Frank and Stella Nevins of New Hamburg. He was a Life member of New Hamburg Fire Dept Co. 1. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 - 1954 during the Korean War. He married Geraldine E. Doreo July 23rd, 1961 who predeceased him in December 1998. He worked at Phoenix cables until he retired at the age of 78. He is survived by his son James F. Nevins and partner Mike O'keefe, grandchildren Brian and Taylor. Son Timothy A. Nevins and wife Melissa, grandchildren Nick and Parker. He is predeceased by his twin brother Robert and brother Ronald Nevins. His sister Sandy Ettinger survives at her home in New Hamburg. And an ex daughter-in-law Lori Nevins in Poughkeepsie. Fran was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching events any chance he got. He was a little league coach for 11 years in the city of Poughkeepsie leagues. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Fastpitch Softball hall of fame in 1985. He was an umpire for the Twilight League for many years. He later enjoyed the game through his grandsons not missing a game even when he was in the hospital. The game was live streamed into his hospital room. He bowled in the Progressive bowling league for over 30 years eventually winning the league with his sons. Calling hours will be 4-8pm Thursday, April 10th at the Timothy Doyle funeral home on Hooker Ave in Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 10:30 Friday, April 11th at the funeral home with entombment in the Rural Cemetary. Donations made be made in Fran's name to Hospice of Dutchess County.
