Obituary of David R. Gagliardy

David "Dave" R. Gagliardy, a long time resident of LaGrangeville, NY, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born July 22, 1932 in Hudson, NY, attended schools in Livingston, Hudson and graduated from Germantown High School.  On October 17, 1954 he married his best friend and childhood sweetheart Florence "Flo" Reynolds in Greenport, NY.  They moved to Wappingers Falls and Dave went into the Navy, serving aboard the USS Forrestal CVA-59.  When discharged from the Navy, they moved to LaGrangeville and raised three sons.  Dave went to work for Texaco Research Center in Glenham, NY and retired from the center in 1989.

Dave loved music, played the accordion for many years, beginning in his early teens.  He and friends formed a band in the 60's and played as a group locally for several years.  Occasionally Dave also played drums.

He was involved in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as his sons grew up.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in LaGrangeville, NY, the Elks BPOE #275 and the American Legion #1302 of Poughkeepsie, NY, a life member of the USS Forrestal Association, the Paralyzed Veterans Association, the Germantown Alumni Association, the Texaco Retiree Association, and in his teen years was a member of a Grange in Livingston, NY where he often played for dances.  Unfortunately the Grange closed.  Dave was named Citizen of the Year by his wife's Grange in 2006.

Dave enjoyed gardening and for many years planted a huge garden.  When he became disabled in 1995 he continued to plant garlic with the help of his sons and most recently his grandson.  Joshua planted and harvested the garlic.  He also enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and playing games with friends and family.

Shortly after retiring, Dave and Flo bought a home in Bradenton, FL where they have spent the past 20 years enjoying sunshine and warm weather during the winter months, instead of cold, ice and snow.  While in Florida, although disabled, Dave continued to play his accordion.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Flo of 63 years, son, Richard of LaGrangeville, NY, and son Robert, his wife Erika and Grandson Joshua, "the apple of his eye", of Poughkeepsie, NY.  He is also survived by three step-sisters, Clara Foster of Athens, NY, Jeanette Cobb of Marietta, GA, Catherine Weaver of Atlanta, GA and step-mother Catherine Gagliardy of Marietta, GA, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.  He was predeceased by his oldest son, David A. "Gig" Gagliardy in 2005.

Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours.  Internment will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.  If you would like to leave an online condolence, please visit www.doylefuneralhome.com
