William Cianchetta

Obituary of William Paul Cianchetta

William Paul Cianchetta, 76, passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on October 18, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

Born on January 30, 1947, Bill grew up in Wappingers Falls with his parents William and Berma Cianchetta. He attended Saint Mary’s school in Wappingers, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Marist College, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. After graduation, he began working at IBM in Poughkeepsie, as the Control Department Manager, and Chemical Safety Expert for that site. Bill was a devout Catholic attending Saint Stanislaus and serving as a Lecter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He married his soulmate, Diana Mancini on August 22, 1970. They shared 53 wonderful, loving years together. They were blessed with a daughter, Elizabeth.

Growing up in Wappingers Falls, Bill played on several baseball teams, and fondly shared memories of these days with friends, relatives and especially “his boy”, Liam. He enjoyed skiing at Gore Mountain with his wife, watching any sport on tv, especially the Giants and the Yankees and of course, golf, golf, golf. Bill was an avid painter, and his family and friends will cherish his special paintings for years to come. He loved to cook, and his family enjoyed all his meals, especially his meatballs, sauce, burnt peas, chicken cutlets, frittata, and Italian biscotti. We called him “Chef Billy”.

Most people will remember Bill for his caring heart, his love for everyone, his kind words, listening ear, soft spoken voice, his extraordinary will, and strength to live despite his disease. His great joy was being able to dance with his daughter at her wedding and seeing Liam and Lilly continue to grow.

In addition to his wife, Diana, William is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth, and husband Kyle. His sister-in-law, Loretta Soper. His cousin, Deb Buchner, and partner Ray Bowen. His nephew, Stephen Soper and wife Eucaris. His niece, Deanna Johnson and husband Brendan. His niece, Danielle Roberts, husband Ray and their children Jack and Ella.  His cousins, Annette Vleming, Virgil Baracca, Ann Marie Kane, and many other cousins and friends whom he loved dearly. His beloved, Liam and Lilly, who were like grandchildren to him, the unconditional love that he shared with them was so special.

The family would like to thank Dr. Meera Lobo and Dr. Timothy Collins for their devoted care and support throughout the years, as well as in his final days. We are forever grateful to them.
