Freeman Marshall III

Obituary of Freeman Francis Marshall III

Freeman Francis Marshall III, “The Fman”, 70, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away on October
20, 2023 at Vassar Hospital with his family by his side. He was born on March 11, 1953, in
Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Freeman Francis Marshall II and the late Joyce Elizabeth
Hansen Marshall Schaefer.
Freeman was a local resident all his life. He was a 1971 Graduate of Arlington High School, a
Graduate of Dutchess Community College and attended the New York State Police Academy.
He worked as a Police Officer and Detective for the City of Poughkeepsie, self-employed
Private Investigator, a Tradesman and Auto Salesman. Freeman took great pride in his criminal
justice career and exemplified what it means to be a true public servant. After his time in law
enforcement, Freeman focused his skills and attention to detail in carpentry. He created
beautiful pieces of work for any and all projects he was working on. One of his last projects was
to build wine barrel racks for his daughter at Red Maple Vineyard.
Freeman loved to spend time in Cape Cod and LBI with his family and friends. Fishing and
cooking were always a big part of these trips. He proudly passed his love for cooking and the
Cape to his children. He also loved to hunt, garden, spend time at the beach, have BBQs with
family and friends, and watch and play football. His family remembers summers standing
around his famous Chiminea fire cookouts. Special thanks to the Hooker Ave Firehouse for their
patience and tolerance all those summers. Freeman had a unique talent to make even the
hardest people laugh and smile. It didn’t matter where or who he was with, he was always
making people laugh. His incredible sense of humor will be remembered and missed by all.
Survivors include his son Logan Thomas Marshall of Poughkeepsie, NY, daughter Madison Lee
Marshall and fiancé Joel Clercq of West Park, NY, loving partner Maureen Mullaly Murphy,
former spouse Donna Marshall, his siblings Judith Ann Wirges, William Marshall, Karl Schaefer,
Tom Schaefer, David Schaefer, Roger Schaefer, Uncle Henry Hansen, the Mullaly Family, the
Frank family, the Sullivan and Jacobs family, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and grand dogs.
Freeman was predeceased by his father Freeman Francis Marshall II and stepmother Joan
Quinlan Marshall, his mother Joyce Elizabeth Schaefer, and stepfather Robert Ernest Schaefer,
and his very best friend Richard Frank.
