Obituary of Erich Becker

Erich Becker, 79, a local resident since 1971 of the Town of Poughkeepsie, formerly of Croton-on-Hudson, died July 16, 2009 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. He was the Owner of Becker's Nursery, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He came to USA from Germany at the age of 28, went to school in Long Island, NY for Horticulture and started his own business in Tarrytown, NY in 1966. Born September 28, 1930, in Hirsch-Berg, Germany, he was the son of Friderich and Frieda Wheiss Becker. Survivors include his life long companion Dorothy Williams at home; two sisters, Margarete Oberhoff and Helene Twistel, sister both of Germany; four nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Gerhard and Georg, during WWII. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 11:30am 1:30pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery
