Obituary of Francis Benedict

Francis A. Benedict, 85, of Poughkeepsie passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A lifelong area resident, he was employed as a Plumber for Steamfitters Local 201, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a Big Yankee Fan, he loved to Bowl and was involved in the Sunday Night League. Born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 4, 1924, he was the son of Frank and Mary Colbert Benedict. He attended Poughkeepsie High School. On March 31, 1946 he married Barbara Gibson at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Benedict survives at home in Poughkeepsie. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharyn and James Burke, Leesburg, FL; his sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Candace Benedict of Rhinebeck; and Jeffrey and Cheryl Benedict of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren and their wives, Shawn and Stephyne Burke, Ryan Burke and Shane and Linda Benedict, Wesley and Heather Benedict, Troy and Teal Benedict, Morgan Benedict and Kyle Benedict, as well as six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother, Muriel Thitchener, Bernice Ackert and Walter Benedict. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 from 4pm to 8 pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mansion St., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
