Obituary of William Bright

William MacIllwraith Bright, 89, a resident of Poughkeepsie formerly of Hackensack, NJ, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Bill worked in the dry cleaning industry for most of his life, as a master mechanic, first with Clean Fair Dry Cleaners and was later selfemployed. When he retired, he and Ruth traveled in their motorhome taking trips across the country and up and down the east coast. Bill was a committed Brooklyn Dodgers sports fan and enjoyed playing basketball with his sons and the neighborhood kids. He loved to play cribbage dominos and solitaire. He also enjoyed gardening and a good argument. He loved his family completely. He was a United States Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class during World War II. Born Nov. 16, 1919 in Hackensack, NJ, he was the son of Albert and Minnie Bealing Bright. In September 1944, in Bergenfield, NJ, he married Ruth Marie Bollinger. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Barbara Porter and her husband, Hank of Arizona; Kathy Bright and her husband, Bowen Roberts of Lakeville, CT; William A. Bright and his wife, Marjorie of Unionvale, NY; and Douglas Bright; grandchildren, Krishna Porter, Kim Porter, Jackson Porter, Cree Roberts, Joshua Bright, Daniel Bright, Erica DelForno and Paul DelForno; and great-grandchild, Mahalia Nathaniel. Calling hours will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday, March 1, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be offered at 6 p.m. Burial will be in March 3, in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Arlington Reformed Church.
