Obituary of Robert Cannon

Robert John Cannon, 78, a lifelong resident of the Poughkeepsie area, passed away on March 6, 2010. Born in Kingston, NY on December 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Frederick and Anna (nee Bell) Cannon. Mr. Cannon attended school in Poughkeepsie, served in the U.S. Army and worked for IBM in Poughkeepsie for 39 years, retiring in 1991. On February 24, 1951 at Hedding Methodist Church, he married Barbara Duncan who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter, Linda Dallara and her husband, Jim of Oneonta; his two sons, Douglas and his wife, Lynn of Wappingers Falls and Timothy of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer DallaraAngilletta and her husband, Robert of Albany; Aaron Dallara and his wife, Sheillah of Houston, TX and their son, Alexander born March 1st, Alexander being Robert's, first great grandchild. Grandchildren also surviving are: Robert Joel Cannon of Abilene, TX and Mandi Cannon of Dallas, TX. He is survived by a sister, Margaret, as well as a sister in law, Lavinia Bonak of Ashley Falls, MA. He was predeceased by two brothers: Frederick, Jr. and Walter Cannon and his sister, Alice North. Mr. Cannon was a kind and compassionate man who was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, reading, doing puzzles and gardening. He was especially interested in growing, decorating and collecting gourds. Services will be held at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie on Thursday, March 11, starting with visitation from 12 until 2pm with Past John Osborne officiating funeral services starting at 2pm. Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
