Obituary of Frank Carlon

I am the resurrection and the life" sayeth the Lord, "though we may die, we shall live." Our heavenly father called Frank T. Carlon, his faithful servant to his eternal home on July 16, 2009. Frank was born on May 23, 1926 in Poughkeepsie to Frank and Frances Carlon and lived in his beloved Hudson Valley all of his life. After graduation from Poughkeepsie High School, Frank enlisted in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army and became a trooper with the 325th glider infantry regiment, earning him his glider wings. He fought in WWII in Belgium and Germany, served in Berlin for occupation duty and helped liberate the Wobelein Concentration Camp. Upon returning home, Frank marched with the division that lead the NYC Victory Parade on January 3, 1946. After attending Sienna College Frank worked at Central Hudson Gas & Electric for 36 years. Frank and his brother James formed a band "The Gentlemen Five", playing locally for many years. Frank played 2nd chair clarinet in the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, was a member of the musicians union, the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, American Legion Post 37 and Germania Singing Society. In 1951 Frank married Ruth Schmidt who survives at home, his wife of 58 years. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Mary and Vincent Eagan, Frank and Bonita Carlon, Thomas and Colleen Carlon, Katherine Richter, eight grandchildren, his brother James Carlon and his wife Mary Jo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Frank was a patient, kind and understanding man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Arrangements are under the direction of Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home at 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie,. Calling hours are Monday, July 20 from 5-8pm A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church on Hamilton St. in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday, July 21 at 10am. Burial services to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
