Obituary of Marian Carroll

Marian Byrnes Carroll, 100, beloved matriarch passed away Thursday, August 14,2008 in Cary, North Carolina. She was born in Troy, New York on September 1, 1907, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Byrnes and Mabelle Savage Byrnes. Her husband of 54 years, Charles N. Carroll, her sister Arlene Byrnes Kinsella, brother Richard Byrnes and daughter-in-law Edna Wescott Carroll predeceased her. Mrs. Carroll was a graduate of New Paltz Teacher's College and Syracuse University class of 1930, a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She retired from the Arlington School System, New York after over 20 years of teaching. Her son Charles S. Carro/l and his wife Patricia, of Sterling, Massachusetts, daughter Diane Carroll Westbrook and her husband Richard, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, daughter Gloria Carroll Facciola and her husband John of Alexandria, Virginia, daughter Arlene Carroll Pontello and her husband Richard of Cary, North Carolina survive Mrs. Carroll. Also surviving are grandchildren, Elizabeth Carroll Thibideau and husband Alan, of Nashua, New Hampshire, Charles Canoll and wife Jean of Acushnet, Massachusetts, Craig Canoll and wife Rosalind of Annapolis, Maryland, Jennifer Carroll Kilcoyne and husband G ary of Rutland Massachusetts, Christopher Westbrook of Chesapeake, Virginia, Suzanne Westbrook Iyer and husband Ramesh of Newbury Park, California, Elizabeth Westbrook Shaulis and husband Eugene of Frederick, Maryland, Richard E. Westbrook of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Melissa Westbrook Edelheit and husband Donald of Heidelberg, Germany, Jeffrey Westbrook and wife Sarah of Greenville, North Carolina, Patricia Westbrook of Denver, Colorado, John Facciola and wife Kelly of Woodbridge, Virginia, Daniel Facciola of Alexandria, Virginia, Richard Pontello and wife Jenifer of Apex, North Carolina and Stephanie Pontello Hubert and husband Kyle of Cary, North Carolina. Surviving in addition are great grandchildren, Craig and Tiffany Thibideau, Daniel and Brynne Carroll, Cydney Carroll, Matthew, Cory and Kelly Kilcoyne, Christy, Ryan and Derrick Westbrook, Ethan Iyer, Max and Allison Shaulis, Caroline Edelheit, Jack Mc Adams, Anna Marian, Charlie and James Facciola, Richard Pontello and Isabel Marian Hubert. Two great grandchildren survive her, Hannah and Autumn Westbrook as do nieces Phoebe Goodheart and Cynthia Stillman and her husband Bruce of Syracuse New York. Mrs. Carroll was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie, New York and more recently of St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, North Carolina. The family is grateful to Jean Carpenter, Mrs. Carroll's care provider a nd close friend. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Heart Field Rehabilitation and Assisted L iving Facility and to Heartland Hospice for the respect, care and support they provided. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:45am on Thursday August 21, 2008 at Holy Trinity Church, P oughkeepsie. Burial will follow at StanfordC emetery in Stanfordville, N Y.
