Obituary of Peter Charland

Peter James Charland, age 76, of the Town of Poughkeepsie died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. Mr. Charland was born February 18, 1934 in Tupper Lake, NY the son of the late Louis and the late Beatrice (Monakey) Charland. He married Lily Ann LaMere February 16, 1957. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955, serving on the USS Johnston and USS Power. He retired from IBM Poughkeepsie in 1990 after working there for over twenty five years. Peter also worked as a Patrolman for the Tupper Lake Police Department from 1955 to 1957. Peter was a life long member of the American Legion Post 1302 He is survived by his wife: Lily Ann (LaMere) Charland of Poughkeepsie, his sons; Dr. James Charland and his wife Charland of Amsterdam NY, Patrick Charland and his wife Hazel of Poughkeepsie, NY, Timothy Charland of Beacon NY, Matthew Charland and his wife Jeanine of Pleasant Valley NY, Christopher Charland and his wife Carolyn of Pleasant Valley NY and a daughter and her husband Susan and Thomas Gault of Poughkeepsie NY. Peter is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and three sisters Cecile McKenty of Saratoga Springs NY, Aldegonde Vom Scheidt of Ocean City Florida and Jacqueline Healy of Vancouver Washington. Calling Hours will be Sunday January 9, 2011 from 2pm to 4pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York 12603. A service will follow at 4pm.
