Obituary of Vincentina Chickery

Vincentina " Tina " Chickery, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8th at the age of 85. A parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, Tina was born on June 6th, 1924 to Vincent and Rosalia Cinque and attended Poughkeepsie schools. On November 5th, 1944 she married Anthony L. " Chick " Chickery who predeceased her on October 15th, 1991, a few years shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Tina was well known in the Poughkeepsie area both from her involvement in community activities and her family businesses. They say that behind every successful man there is a good woman and that was certainly the case with Tina and Chick. She was an integral part of the entrepreneurial success of her family With her husband she owned Chick's Corner Store, Chick's Family Market, Active Market, Chick's Lunch, Hudson Valley Stationers, Hudson Valley Office Furniture, Celebrate Card and Gift Shoppe and various other smaller stores. With her children, she opened Tina's Place shortly after her husband's passing. Tina was one of the founding members and first President of the Marian Guild Mother's Club of St. Francis Hospital, a past President of the Mt. Carmel Mothers Club, a past President of the St. Ann's Society of Mt. Carmel Church and a member of the St. Rita's Society at Mt Carmel as well. She was a member of the Italian Center Ladies Auxiliary and their Victory Lodge as well as the Queen City Seniors. Tina took an active role at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church and School. While her five sons attended Mt Carmel elementary School, she was active in everything from writing school plays and staging fundraising events to volunteering in the cafeteria. At Mt Carmel Church she was a past Eucharistic Minister, member of the Parish & Community Life committee, active with the St. Anthony's Feast and annual raffles, and a recipient of the Our Lady Of Mount Carmel " Salt Of The Earth " award. She specifically requested that in lieu of flowers,memorial donations be made in her name to Mt Carmel Parish, 11 Mt. Carmel Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Tina's greatest passion was her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her maiden name of Cinque, which means five in Italian, proved true as she and Chick had 5 sons together. She was extremely proud of the fact that her surviving four sons and two grandsons are still integral parts of Hudson Valley Office Furniture today. She is survived by her sister Lorraine and her husband Joseph Zezuto. Tina's sons and wives are Garry and Linda of Pleasant Valley, Thomas and JoEllen of Hopewell Junction, John and Bunny of LaGrangeville and Steven and Denise of Poughkeepsie and her daughter in-law Gail Chickery of Poughkeepsie. She also had many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Anthony and Heather and their daughter Isabella, Lisa Marie, Kim and Ken and their sons, Dalton and Chance, Sean and Julie and their sons, Richie, Justin and Donovan, Garry and Joelle and their daughter Jada, Tom, Marc, Tina, Michael, Brian and Erin, and Daniel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by twin daughters and her eldest son Anthony, and grandson John David Chickery. In her later years Tina was fortunate to have many wonderful caregivers and the family wishes to thank Valerie for the loving care she showed to Tina. We also would like to thank Hospice for their dedicated service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Calling hours will be held Monday, October 12th, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00 -9:00 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Tuesday October 13m 2009 at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, 95 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY Services will conclude at St. Peter's Cemetery.
