Obituary of John Colgan

John F. Colgan, 52, of Salt Point, Pleasant Valley, died of a sudden heart attack on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. John was born December 25, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Joseph Denman Colgan and Catherine P. Hagan. A Pleasant Valley resident for most of his life, he was employed by Dutchess Quarry and Supply for 23 years. John spent many years metal detecting near historic Civil War Battlefields and had an extensive collection of Civil War relics. The past few years have been devoted to collecting World War II artifacts. John loved music: Marshall Tucker Band and Tom Petty were his special favorites. John is survived by his loving children, whom he adored, Elissa Catherine and John Patrick at home,Sisters Alice & Mary Colgan and Nora Hackett; Brothers: Joseph Colgan, Thomas and Ellen Colgan, Edward and Barbara Hackett, Terence and Heather Hackett; his former Wife, Laurie Colgan; Nieces & Nephews: Danielle, Thomas, Corey, Catherine Colgan, and Edward, Colleen, Jamie, Zachary, and Amanda Hackett; His Aunts Mary and Frances, several Cousins & his In-Laws, Bob and Terri Ghee. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. John has gone to be reunited with his Mother, Catherine Hackett, Fathers, Joseph Denman Colgan and Edward Hackett, and his beloved dog Barney. Calling hours will be 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, June 6,2010 at the Timothy P.Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12603. The Funeral Service will take place at 11am, Monday, June 7, 2010 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Traver Rd., Pleasant Valley, N.Y. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
