Obituary of Paul Dutko

Paul J. Dutko, 89, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away at home on November 8, 2010. He was a loving family patriarch, very optimistic and looked on the bright side of everything. To his family and friends, Paul was the most generous man you ever wanted to meet as well as an outstanding businessman and avid golfer. Born in Little Falls, NJ on July 2, 1921 to John Dutko and Fannie Pelak, Paul lived in Little Falls for most of his life and Elmwood Park, NJ for 11 years. He attended Central High School in Paterson, NJ and served in the US Coast Guard on the USS Admiral C. J. Hughes. Before residing in Poughkeepsie for the past six years, he was a mortgage broker with Bankers Limited of Paterson, NJ and past president of Federal Mortgage Company in Clifton, NJ. Paul was a member of the Knoll Golf Club of Parsippany, NJ as well as St. John's Russian Orthodox Church, NJ and Christ Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie. On September 12, 1943, he married Elizabeth Olenich in Little Falls, NJ; she predeceased him on January 18, 2004. He is survived by daughter Paula & husband David Sherwood of Poughkeepsie; sister Mary Durkos of Little Falls, NJ; brother Michael Dutko of Wayne, NJ; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren Kira Jewitt & husband Joe or Northampton, MA and Kristin Sherwood of Worcester, MA; greatgrandchildren Aislyn & Ren Jewitt and Sokah Morero, all of Northampton, MA; brothers and sisters-in-law Walter & Jean Olenich of Wyckoff, NJ and Charles & Ruth VanderPyle of Butler, NJ. He is predeceased by brothers Charles, Stephen & Peter and sister Justine and sister-in-law Olga VanderPyle. Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 10 from 7:00 9:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY with a church service on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Christ Episcopal Church, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be Friday, November 12, 2010 at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa, NJ and graveside service with military honors at 11:00am. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Donor Services, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Flowers are also welcome.
