Obituary of Lois Evans

Lois E. Evans, 82, of Billings, NY, died October 30, 2008. She had been a Nurse at Van Wyck Jr. High School and a Teacher's Assistant. She was also employed at St. Francis Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She retired in 1991. A lifetime local resident, Mrs. Evans was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved her family and grandchildren. She also loved to cook, bake and decorate birdhouses. Born Aug. 25, 1926 in Beekman, NY, she was the daughter of Harold Shaffer and Susan Wright. She was a graduate of Millbrook High School and St. Francis School of Nursing. On Jan. 29, 1955 in Delaware, she married Clement William Evans. Mr. Evans survives at home. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dale R. and Ray O'Donnell of Guntersville, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Harold W. and Cindy Evans of Milan, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Laura A. and Richard Rexhouse of Poughkeepsie, NY; grandchildren, John and Paul Evans, Cory and Amanda Rexhouse; sisters, Alice Phelps of Billings, NY and Alicia Andrews of Florida; and a brother, Sam Shaffer of Billings, NY. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty Secor in 1997 and a brother Harold Shaffer, Jr. The family would like to thank Julie and Patricia, the nurses from Hospice for the great care they provided. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Foundation, 374 Violet Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 from 10am until 11:30am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30am, following visitation. Burial will be at the convenience.
