Obituary of Fred Hope

Fred Hope Sr., 73, a local resident since 1997, formerly of Mt. Vernon, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Castle Point VA Hospital. Mr. Hope was a self-employed auto detailer and worked in maintenance for the Poughkeepsie City Schools. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Hope loved to bake and cook for his family. He enjoyed watching NBA basketball and loved to keep his yard pristine. Born Sept. 3, 1935 in High Point, NC, he was a graduate of William Penn High School in High Point, NC. On June 1, 1958, in Trinity, NC, he married Blondell Steele. Mrs. Hope died July 16, 2005. Survivors include his son, Fred D. Hope Jr. of Poughkeepsie; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Keith Sanders of Poughkeepsie; his sister, Bonnie Wright of Mt. Vernon; his sister, Lottie Hope of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Hope. Calling hours will be 1-1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
