Obituary of Marie Ignaffo

On September 10, 2009, Monica Ignaffo passed away peacefully at her home in Poughkeepsie. Monica was born on January 2, 1925 in Mavilette, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Luis Boudreau and Madeleine Deveau Boudreau. Monica came to America on November 14, 1945, and soon after became a naturalized citizen. From 1945 to 1952 Monica worked as a secretary to the proprietor of Schatz Federal Bearings. Beginning in 1957 she worked in both obstetrics and 5 Cook at St. Francis Hospital. Monica always looked back at her 30 years at St. Francis with great fondness. On July 30, 1950, Monica married Pasquale Ignaffo, who survives at home. Monica leaves behind three sons and their spouses, Dominick and Deborah Ignaffo of Hyde Park, Michael Ignaffo and Trisha Martin-Ignaffo of Poughkeepsie, and Thomas and Anne Ignaffo of Poughkeepsie. Shari Gallo, mother of Corrie and Kevin, also survives. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Michael Ignaffo, Montesereno, California, Corrie Bohn and spouse, John, of Bend, Oregon, Timothy Ignaffo and spouse, Sara Roe-Ignaffo, Manhattan, NY, Thomas Ignaffo, Jr. and spouse, Megan, of Newington, Ct., Kevin Ignaffo of Hyde Park, Andrew Ignaffo of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Katie Ignaffo of Germantown, MD, Tanner and Shannon Ignaffo of Poughkeepsie, and two great-grandchildren, Tadhg Ignaffo and David Ignaffo. Monica is predeceased by her siblings Agnes Bourque and Elias Boudreau of Nova Scotia, Margaret Ells of Toronto, Canada, and Clara Boudreau of Nova Scotia. Surviving siblings are Paul Boudreau and his wife, Genevive of Raleigh, NC, Geraldine Thurston and her late husband, Joseph, of Southington, CT. Monica is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews and her very special friends, Vera Kennedy and Ray Merritt. Monica was an active communicant of Holy Trinity parish for over 50 years. She also enjoyed her memberships at Club 62 and Tri-town. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:45am, Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Donations in memory of Monica may be made to Holy Trinity School or Mid Hudson Hospice
