Amadio (Mario) Iulo died peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, with his wife and son at his side. He was born in NYC on May 25, 1921 to Guiseppi and Ida Iulo. He was a highly decorated veteran of WWII serving in the 8th Division Infantry Regiment attaining the rank of Sergeant. Among his many honors as an enlisted man are the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Medal among others. He is also survived by his son, Bernard, daughter-in-law, Eileen, granddaughters, Michelle Schoulder and her husband, Andrew and Mehgan Iulo. Mario was a woodworker in the piano and fine furniture industry for over 40 years. He and and his wife resided in the Bronx, Yonkers and Willow Grove, PA, before retiring and moving to Poughkeepsie in 1987. His favorite pastimes included woodworking projects and vegetable gardening. Mario was a good and honest man who served his country well, was a hardworking provider and will be greatly missed by family and friends and his dog, Missy. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at St. Martin de Porres Church on Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements under the direction of Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
