Obituary of Raymond Leonard

Raymond A. Leonard, age 80, of Poughkeepsie, NY, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Leonard was born December 2, 1930 in Hudson, NY. He was the son of the late Aime and Marie (Claire) Leonard. He had been a local resident since 1941. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War from 01/14/1948 to 01/13/1952, where he received 2 Purple Hearts and a Korean Service Medal. While serving in the Marine Corps as a PFC during the Korean Conflict, Leonard was honored with many military service ribbons among them were the Combat Action Ribbon, 2 Purple Hearts, Korean Service Medal United Nations, and the Presidential Unit Citation Korea, are a few among the awards. Mr. Leonard was also a past Dutchess County Representative, and he received his BA from Delhi University. Mr. Leonard is survived by his former wife, Sally Halstead Leonard, his son David R. Leonard of Poughkeepsie, NY, his daughter Sally F. Leonard KerrDineen of Hilton Head, SC, a brother, John Leonard of Poughkeepsie and his grandchildren Iris Sophie and Luke Giles Kerr-Dineen. He was predeceased by a brother Marcel F. Leonard and a sister, Francois Ciancio. Calling hours will be held on Monday, 12/20.10 from 4:00 to 8:00pm, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, 12/21/10, at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Lawn Crypt with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Department of Navy Gift Fund, Wounded Warrior Regiment, 3025 John Quick Rd., MCB, Quantico, VA. 22134.
