Obituary of James Longi

James V. Longi Jr. 71 of the City of Poughkeepsie died Sunday November 27, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born March 23, 1940 in Poughkeepsie, NY he was the son of James V. Sr. and Florence Harlin Longi. Jim was a local resident all his life, a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and a member of St. Mary’s Church Poughkeepsie. Jim served his Country in the United States Navy as an E-6 Radio Telegraph Operator on the USS Forrestal and was a member of the American Legion Post 1466. Jim was a retired Captain of the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department. He started his career with the Fire Department in 1961 as a Dispatcher and was appointed as a Firefighter in 1964. During his time with the Fire Department Jim was promoted to Lieutenant in 1974 and to Captain in 1978. Jim served his community with distinction, honor and bravery. On January 19, 2002 Jim retired from the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department with over 40 years of dedicated service. Jim loved to golf, enjoyed his Corvettes, and was a war buff an avid Yankee’s fan but most of all loved his family. Jim is survived by his mother Florence Fuimarello of Poughkeepsie; his step mother Martha Henion of Hyde Park; son James V. Longi III and his wife Mary of Manassas, VA; son Paul A. Longi and his wife Robyn of Ballston Spa, NY and daughter Kristina Granieri and her husband Joseph of Highland. Jim is also survived by his grandchildren; Madison, Connor and Spencer Faith Longi; Paul A. Jr., Mallory; James Longi; Camryn and Harper Granieri. His brothers and sisters Raymond Longi, Susan Michael, Peter Longi, Richard Longi, Nancy Fuchs, Marcia Brady, Dottie Dorney and David Fuimarello. Jim was also predeceased by his sister Joanne Longi. Calling hours will be held Thursday December 1, 2011 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am at St Mary’s Church Poughkeepsie New York with burial to be at the Arlington National Cemetery.
