Obituary of Doris Northrop

Doris C. Northrop, 89, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A lifelong area resident, she was employed as a Nurse at the Vassar College Infirmary and also at the Wappingers Play Group Nursery School, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Upper Saranac Association and the New Hackensack Reform Church. She was a member of the church choir, was an avid Bridge player and loved to bowl, golf, boat, swim and read. Born in Poughkeepsie on October 26, 1920, she was the daughter of Percy Clearwater. On July 2, 1939, she married Elmer Gilbert Northrop in Upper Red Hook, NY. He predeceased his wife on September 13, 2003. She is survived by her grandson and his wife, Brian and Lynda Doulin of Wayne, NJ; her daughter in law, Dorothy A. Doulin of Poughkeepsie; her niece, Patricia Smalley and her companion Ernie Klopping of Staatsburg, NY; her nephew and his wife, Edwin and Barbara Smith of Pleasant Valley. She was predeceased by her son, Lynn Gilbert Northrop on August 3, 1973; her daughter, Marilyn Jean Northrop on December 6,2006 and her brother, Harold Clearwater. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 10 am. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Vassar Warner Home, South Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601; the MS Society or the Alzheimer's Assoc.
