Obituary of John Peluso

John F. Peluso, age 65, Poughkeepsie New York, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center of Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Peluso was born December 28, 1944 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the (late) John R. and Viola (Scotti) Peluso. He was a Professor at the State University of NY At Oswego And Binghamton. He was a life long area resident. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, class of 1962. He received his B.A. from SUNY Buffalo and his M.A. from SUNY Binghamton, both degrees in Art History. John was completing his PhD at the time of his death. John’s Masters Thesis was published in two very prestigious art magazines in Florence, Italy and in Paris. John was a very proud blood donor, donating for many years at Vassar Hospital’s Blood Center. John was an Eagle Scott. He was a fine photographer, winning three 1st place awards and two honorable mentions in local juried exhibitions. He loved to read. He traveled to Europe three times to visit the fine arts museums there. John was a member of the Dutchess Community Alumni Association, State University of New York at Binghamton and Buffalo Alumni Association and the Dutchess County Art Association- Barrett House. He was known as “The Mayor of Oakwood Boulevard “. He is survived by his mother, Viola (Scotti) Peluso of Poughkeepsie; his sister Jean Zimmerman of Magnolia, DE; his Nephew Matthew Zimmerman; and his niece and her husband Jill Zimmerman and Peter Jensen. He is also survived by a great-niece Grace Jensen; Aunts Marian Poluzzi, Theresa Scotti and Regina Peluse, all of Poughkeepsie; and many cousins. Calling hours will be Monday, October 18 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1:00 pm on Monday, October 18 at St. Mary's Church, Church Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie New York following the church service.
