Obituary of Theresa Mary Ann Radzivila

Theresa Radzivila of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Wingate at Dutchess after a long illness and was lovingly cared for by her husband for several years. She was born to the late John and Anna Horvath Fedor in Yonkers on August 29,1924. Theresa was educated at the Holy Trinity School and was an active member of the Sokols Marching Band and was also a graduate of the Yonkers High School of Commerce. During World War II, Theresa worked in several defense factories manufacturing War Clothing Products. After the war, she worked as a clerk in the Alexander Smith Carpet Factory in Yonkers. She continued her activities with the Sokols Marching Band and was to meet her future husband with a mutual interest on the Drum Corps Circuit. On September 3, 1949, Theresa married Raymond Radzivila at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Yonkers. The family moved to the Poughkeepsie area in 1960. She is survived by her husband Raymond, and a daughter, Terri and her husband, Paul Smith and grandsons, Christopher and Timothy Smith, all of Wappingers Falls. She is also survive by a brother, Michael and his wife, Alicia Fedor of Palm Harbor, FL along with many nieces and nephews. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, John and Anna Fedor, her brothers, Steve, John, Charles, Francis, and sisters Vera Poakeart and Helen Resko. She was a 50 year member in the National Slovak Catholic Sokal; a life member in the national DAV Auxiliary and a life member in the 96th Infantry Division Deadeye Association Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Martin dePorres Parish and was an avid Bingo player prior to her long illness. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm., at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie on Sunday, July 27, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Martin dePorres Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Hospice of Dutchess County, Inc., 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
