Obituary of Ruth Thornton

Ruth B. Thornton, 85, of Red Hook passed away on Monday, April 13, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. A local resident since 1956, she had previously resided in Hartford, CT. Ruth was a homemaker. Ruth served in the United States Navy. She was a cherished wife and loving mother. Her family was everything to her and she will never be forgotten. She was born in Ashuelot, NH on August 1, 1923, the daughter of George D. and Melina M. Richard Bastien. On March 26, 1945 she married William Gordon Thornton. He predeceased her in March 1992. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Ron Plambeck of Rhinebeck, daughter and daughter-in-law, Jill Thornton and Julia Maycock of South Hamilton, MA, daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Richard Flaherty of Poughkeepsie; Patrice and Paul Passidomo of Waccabuc, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patti Thornton of Bradenton, FL; a sister, Elinor Buddes of Florida, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Sophie Elizabeth Hoy in 1993 and a Son William Terrence Thornton in 1983. There are no calling hours. Funeral services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family plot in South Windsor, Connecticut. Arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.
