Obituary of Helen Trent

Helen R. Trent, 68, of Marietta, Georgia and formerly of Poughkeepsie, died at home on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 after a battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Rubbo. On April 29, 1962, she married Richard Trent, who survives at home. Helen also is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nancy Trent of Poughkeepsie; daughter and son-inlaw, Dr. Christina and Paul Menair of Tampa, Florida; son, Michael Trent of Acworth, Georgia; a sister and brother-inlaw Mary and Frank Dori of Houston, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Terri and Maurice Rucker of Hornell, New York; sister and brother-in law Ann and James Keely of Tarrytown, New York; and numerous cousins, nieces, and friends in New York and Georgia. Helen was a homemaker who proudly maintained her house in immaculate condition. She also worked as a child care provider and furniture saleswoman. She graduated from Annunciation High School in Yonkers and attended Dutchess Community College. She volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and for several years answered a hotline for parents of diabetic children. In the 1970s Helen joined several Town of Poughkeepsie residents to lobby for the "leash law," which has improved the quality of life in the Town. Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, June 13 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. A service will be held immediately after the calling hours at the funeral home. Internment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org.
