Obituary of David Turner

David Samuel Turner of Poughquag, New York fell asleep in death on Wednesday June 8, 2011. David was born on September 18, 1984 in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the son of Darryl DeWitt. And Lynne Elijah Turner also of Poughquag. David spent his early childhood in Cleveland, Ohio where he developed a love of school, baseball, basketball, music and art. He loved spending time with his grandmothers, aunts, and uncles always performing for and entertaining them with his musical and comedic talents. He then moved to Lisle, Illinois with his family where he continued his love of sports, comic books, the Chicago Bulls music, and art. David played little league baseball and numerous intramural sports including baseball and umpiring. David and his friends wrote and illustrated their own comic book series. In 1999 his family relocated to Poughquag where he attended Arlington High School and graduated in 2002 with an Advanced Regents Diploma. He then accepted a scholarship to Pennsylvania State University School of Architecture. He attended until 2004. He then worked locally until Hurricane Katrina when he moved to the New Orleans area and was employed doing home restoration work. He returned to New York after a year and attended Dutchess Community College and was employed at the Poughkeepsie Journal. He also worked for Stage Door Furniture and Just for Fun. David learned to cook organic foods and bake delicious gluten free desserts and breads. He also began focusing on his passion for music. In 2007, David along with Steve Griffin and Chris Wetzel formed a musical group called The Audiodidactz. David was an avid song writer and produced many songs that were included on their debut CD entitled 'The LP'. The group performed at numerous local events. David was a bright and loving young man who did many things to help his sisters. He was considered a great friend by many, and had a big heart and would help them whenever needed. His entire family will miss him but always cherish him through their fond memories. David is survived by his parents, three loving sisters, Lauren, Dahley, and Lyndsey Turner all of Poughquag. Two loving grandmothers Mildred Elijah Bellamy of Uniondale, NY and Gloria Brown of Macedonia, Ohio, a grandfather Ernest Turner of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, three loving uncles, Eric Turner of Sagamore Hills, Ohio, Samuel Elijah Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and Scott Elijah of Uniondale, several great aunts and uncles, Loretta Byers, Lorenza Roberts both of Ohio, Lloyd and Eddie Elijah of Brooklyn, NY, Louaudrey, Randal, Frenzetta, Warner, Essie, and Lamar Turner of Cleveland, Ohio, and his loving cousins Sule, Salim, Ashley, Caleb and Cody Elijah, and Erica and Victoria Turner. He is survived by a host of loving family and friends especially Andrea and Jeanna Galletti, Chris Wetzel, Steve Griffin, and Isaiah Cannon. David was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Samuel Elijah Sr. and Willie Brown, great grandmother Millerine Roberts, great grandfather Edward Roberts, and great aunts Josephine and Clarissa Scott. Visitation will be held Monday June 13, 2011 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York, with a memorial service to start at 7:30pm. Burial will be held Tuesday June 14, 2011 with a graveside service at 10am at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to A Better Chance Inc.
